"The Astronaut Farmer"
Get Involved
Get Your Chapter Involved
A new film, which speaks to the public about an Astronaut who leaves his Aerospace career because of a family tragedy, is set to be released on Feb. 23, 2007.
As we all know when a person has a love of the pursuit of space exploration and travel nothing can change that. Thrown into hard times we will still find a way to follow our dreams.
In this film the character also finds a way to combine the love and needs of family with his own desire to travel to space.
I am sure that all of our chapter members will want to see this movie.
We as space activists should and do encourage others to get excited about going into space. What better way to accomplish this than by using materials, speakers and entertainment that ignite the spirit of adventure in each of us.
Our Executive Director, George T. Whitesides, has informed me that all chapters will be receiving a special package of materials (posters, etc.) for the film. Warren Betts, who is in charge of promotions for the film has said he could even arrange a few private screenings of "The Astronaut Farmer" for chapters.
To Quote GW "It looks like a great film, about a guy who builds a rocket himself, against the odds. If you go to the website you can watch the movie trailer."
I have to admit I was a little skeptical, how good could a film about a guy who builds a rocket himself be? I have seen people building rockets and know that it is a lot of hard work, comes with a lot of hard knocks and then success, maybe. Then I remembered "October Sky" so I went to the website and viewed the trailer as suggested. What a surprise. Now I can't wait to see the film. I am sure that once you have seen the trailer you will not only want to see the movie yourself but will also want to tell others about it, as I have. . You can watch the trailer at http://theastronautfarmermovie.warnerbros.com
So, lets do this. When you get the package containing the promotional materials, use them. Each of our chapter members know the best way that their chapter can participate. We are very good at promoting our dreams that will become reality in the near future.
Our Projects and Events Coordinator, Veronica Ann Zabala-Aliberto will soon be posting information about the film (including PA Tour dates and locations) and related chapter activities on the NEW Chapter Projects & Events website. Drop Veronica Ann an email at Veronica.Zabala@nss.org to give her the details of how your chapter plans to participate.
