Space Blitz 2005!

From Cliff McMurray:

Dear Chapter Leaders,

Space Blitz 2005 is just two and a half weeks away!

If any of your chapter members are planning to attend and haven't registered yet, it's very important that we get those registrations in before the conference. We'll be making our appointments with Senators and Congressmen based on the home addresses of the folks who are registered for the Blitz in advance, so they can be sure to hear directly from their own constituents. With at-the-door registrations, we don't have an opportunity to make those appointments in advance. At-the-door registrants will be integrated into teams with pre-registrants, but they may not get a chance to visit the offices of their own representatives.

Space Blitz 2005 will be held on May 17-18 (the two days just before the International Space Development Conference, so you can kill two birds with one stone when you come to Washington). More information about the Space Blitz, including schedule and regstration forms, is available at www.nss.org/legislative Please note that the registration fee ($50 for advance registrations, $25 for students and seniors, $75 at the door) is only designed to cover expenses of the event.

I urge all of our U.S. chapter members to join us in Washington for this event. For every two additional participants we get, we can cover an additional eleven Congressional offices. Right now we've only got enough participants to cover 20% of our elected representatives. Wouldn't it be great if NSS was the first space activist organization to carry a pro-space message directly into the offices of EVERY U.S. Congressman and Senator?

Now, THAT would be something to brag about!

See you in Washington,

Clifford McMurray
Space Blitz 2005 Chairman

Yuri's night in Minnesota!

Ben Huset from the Minnesota Space Frontier Society has posted photos and some commentary on their Yuri's night party - they had lots of fun, and a call from ISS. Do we have any other reports from Yuri's night?

NY Chapter hosts Neil deGrasse Tyson

As part of a new New York-based group, "Allies in Space", the New York NSS Chapter recently helped organize a Space Town Hall meeting at the Kaufman Theatre at the American Museum of Natural History, with speaker Neil deGrasse Tyson, who served on the Aerospace Commission and last year's Aldridge Commission. Tyson gave a wonderful presentation, followed by an energetic question and answer session, on America's future in space. NYC chapter VP Harold Egeln provides an excellent report here.
