Congratulations to Japan's Space Agency!

Japan returned to space with last Saturday's launch of the H-IIA, some 15 months after a previous launch had failed. This one seems to have been a complete success, putting communications satellite MTSAT-1R in orbit.

The success seems to have increased chances for a major boost in Japan's Space Agency funding, and, according to this space.com report, new plans may include a lunar base and reusable shuttle.

Larry Evans in Ad Astra on Space.com

Congratulations to Larry Evans of the Orange County Space Society (NSS chapter in Irvine, CA)! His article "The NSS Attends the Hollywood Premier of 'Aliens of the Deep'" is in today's online "Ad Astra" available on space.com:

and right now is featured on the space.com front page!

For those of you who haven't seen the new online Ad Astra site with space.com, it looks great! There's news on the NSS main site about what all this means:

Others interested in writing for Ad Astra (online and print) should contact Rich Godwin at richard [AT] cgpublishing.com.

Chapters may also be interested in the new slate of officers for the society, elected by the board this past week - see the list here:

Exciting things are happening, and I'm personally excited to be working with all of you! Stay tuned...
