Minutes of January 2016 Meeting

Oklahoma Space Alliance met at Earl’s Rib Palace in Moore on January 9, 2016. Attending were Steven and Karen Swift, Brian Swift, Russ Davoren, Kay Ferrell, Syd Henderson, Claire and Clifford McMurray, Tim Scott, Bill Sheely, Dave Sheely, Arvind Srikanth, Rosemary Swift, Rachelle Thibodeau, and Dennis Wigley. OSA President Steve Swift presided over the meeting
Steve started off the meeting with news of “What’s Happening in Space.” Keynote quotation by Jeff Bezos, of Blue Origin on the occasion of the successful landing of the New Shepard booster: “.Our long term vision is millions of people living and working in space and continuing to explore the solar system. Reusability is a total game - changer for that. ...”
“What’s Happening” is online at http://chapters.nss.org/ok/1601%20Whats%20Happening.pdf. I’ll only present highlights here: We watched videos of the landing of the New Shepard and Falcon 9 boosters, the first from a suborbital flight, the second as part of an orbital launch, two notable firsts for a suborbital flight. We also watched the launch of a Cygnus resupply mission to the International Space Station. Astronaut Scott Kelly, who is on the Space Station, photographed the launch of the spacecraft.
Arianespace set a record with 12 successful launches in 2015. In 2015, Russia had 29 launches of which 26 were successful, and the USA had 20 of which 18 were successful (the failures being the Falcon 9 launch failure and a SPARK launch failure). China had 19 launches, India 5, Japan 4 and Iran 1; all these 29 launches were successful.

OSA News: Activities to be reported in our annual report: OSA was invited to present at the Oklahoma City Lions Club. OSA was invited to do a presentation at Tinker Air Force base. Claire and Cliff were invited to the Pluto Flyby event.
We watched a video on 3D printing in metal.
