About the Long Island Space Society

The Long Island Space Society, organized in September 2002 as a chapter of the National Space Society, is dedicated to strengthening Long Island initiatives in space research and education, exploration, development, and industry. The National Space Society, founded in 1974 by Wernher von Braun, is an independent, international, educational, grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to the creation of a spacefaring civilization, and is widely acknowledged as the citizen's voice on space.
