The National Space Society (NSS) is looking for
designs that create visions of space exploration and settlement. Designs that bring attention to our goal
of creating a space-faring civilization. The National Space Society and
their NSS Chapters are sponsoring a contest for such designs to be included
in our next printing of Banners/Signs for use during NSS Chapter and
National projects and events.
The purpose of the redesign contest is to create
an NSS Banner that will inspire the person who is viewing it to want to
become part of our pursuit of Space Exploration and Settlement and to join
up on the spot because this is what the scene is projecting. This can certainly lead to a variety of designs that
would elicit such feelings in each of us.
What do you think that design would be? Can you put it down on
paper using a pencil or computer graphics? Or design it by using some of
the Banner design sites available online, photography or using cut and
paste techniques. Whatever method
you choose it must be a design that is completely your own with no
copyrighted artwork, pictures, etc.
Designers, whether professional or amateur, are
encouraged to submit as many designs as they can imagine and create.
The best of the
submitted designs will be selected for our new line of Banner and Small
poster printings.

extended past it’s original submission deadline date of April 30th.

winners will receive

Award Presentation at the ISDC
event during the Chapter Awards lunch/dinner

Winners, their Chapter (if
applicable) and their Design will be entered into the official NSS Award
Record Book. Title of award “INSPIRATION” –
NSS Banner Design

Banner designs will be
displayed in an open area at the ISDC for public viewing [exact location
TBD]
In addition to the above:
For
the First Prize Winner
The First Prize Winner will be
awarded for creating the best Banner design overall. This work will be our
featured Banner design for distribution to NSS Chapters for display at
ongoing Events.
- $300
- $500 Cash
Prize *depending on the number of designs submitted and accepted
to the contest
- (2) One year Complimentary Memberships
in the National Space Society, including a subscription to Ad Astra
magazine to be given to the individual or the chapter to distribute as
they choose within their chapter.
- Write-up in Ad Astra, the Official Magazine of
the National Space Society (design of NSS Banner included).
For
the Second Prize Winner:
- $150
- $200
Cash Prize
*depending on the number of designs submitted and accepted to the
contest
- A one year Complimentary Membership
in the National Space Society, including a subscription to Ad Astra
magazine to be given to the individual or Chapter to distribute as
they choose within
their chapter.
- Write-up in Ad Astra, the Official Magazine of
the National Space Society (design may be included if space allows).
For
the Third Prize winner:
- $100
- $150
Cash Prize
*depending on the number of designs submitted and accepted to the
contest
- A one year Complimentary Membership
in the National Space Society, including a subscription to Ad Astra
magazine to be given to the individual or Chapter to distribute as
they choose within their chapter.
- Write-up in Ad Astra, the Official Magazine of the
National Space Society (design may be included if space allows).
Submitting Your Design
Before submitting your design to the contest, please be
sure to read the Banner Design Contest Submission
Requirements.
Viewing the Submitted Designs
The Banner Designs submitted to the NSS Banner redesign
Contest will be on public display in the Gallery of Submitted Banner
Designs page.

Note:
*All cash prizes will be directly affected by the number of design
entries
- For
the first 30 designs, the cash prize will be the lower limit listed
above [$300=1st, $150=2nd, $100=3rd].
- When
the design entries exceed 30 the cash prize will continue to increase
until it reaches the top limit for each prize ($500=1st,
$200=2nd, $150=3rd)
Example the 1st
prize will increase from a base of $300 by $5 for every entry above 30,
that is submitted and accepted into the contest, until the maximum amount
of $500 is reached
Note: NSS reserves the right to withdraw the contest
if banner designs are deemed not up to the standards necessary to represent
the quality and position of our organization.
