Chapter Annual Reports

In order to maintain standing as an NSS chapter, both US and International chapters need to file a report with the organization every year; the reporting deadline is February 15th. NSS Affiliates may also file information reports using the form below.

Reports should be submitted by email to the Vice President for chapters at Candace.Pankanin@nss.org and to NSS headquarters at nsshq@nss.org. For chapters reporting financial information (US chapters that do not file separately with the IRS) a paper copy to NSS headquarters is also required (only paper copies are required to have signatures when asked for).  NSS Headquarters can be reached at:

National Space Society
1620 I (Eye) Street NW, Suite 615
Washington, DC 20006, USA

FAX: (202) 463-8497

Chapter reports must include:

  • Updated contact information for your chapter
  • Any changes to your bylaws
  • Financial information covering the previous calendar year for chapters that do not file separately from NSS (Note that form 990-N discussed below is not considered filing separately but is required in addition to the financial forms normally filed directly with NSS)
  • A list of activities for the past year including a description. Please begin each item/activity with the title of the event, the date, location, and approximate number of people in attendance
  • A membership list (for sample Membership list click here)
  • Any other information chapters wish to regularly report to NSS

Chapters are encouraged to make use of the following forms for their reports.

All Chapter leaders please read - Filing with the IRS below and  What's New about Chapter Reports this Year?- carefully since some of what follows is a change in reporting procedures for most chapters. At the end of this description you will be able to click on a Q&A link to find answers to questions you may have.
